Fierce, seductive mermaid Syrenka falls in love with Ezra, a young naturalist. When she abandons her life underwater for a chance at happiness on land, she is unaware that this decision comes with horrific and deadly consequences.
Almost one hundred forty years later, seventeen-year-old Hester meets a mysterious stranger named Ezra and feels overwhelmingly, inexplicably drawn to him. For generations, love has resulted in death for the women in her family. Is it an undiagnosed genetic defect . . . or a curse? With Ezra’s help, Hester investigates her family’s strange, sad history. The answers she seeks are waiting in the graveyard, the crypt, and at the bottom of the ocean—but powerful forces will do anything to keep her from uncovering her connection to Syrenka and to the tragedy of so long ago.
For
some reason, I can’t get this book out of my head! I was engrossed in this
book! I couldn’t stop reading… I love this Elizabeth Fama’s narrative and I
like how Fama effortlessly wove a tale that was written in two different
timeline and would keep you guessing and captivated through out the entire
novel. Monstrous Beauty was a well-told love story, it was thought provoking,
heart wrenching and refreshing all at ones. It was a Sweet Bitter ending…
Monstrous
Beauty is a story about Syrenka, a mermaid who lives off the coast of Plymouth,
Mass. In the 1870s, Syrenka falls in love with a man named Ezra. Once an
opportunity presented itself for Syrenka to become human, ditch her fins, get a
soul, she grabbed it, head first! But, at what cost?
Lifetimes
after, Hester Goodwin, 17 is hunted by her families weirdness. Like her mother
and grandmother before her, she knows that there is a possibility that she would die after finding love or after childbirth. A few days after giving birth to
their child, in each case it was a daughter the women in her family dies.
Hester
is gritty on not falling in love or marrying!
Until
she meets a man named Ezra… A man whom she cant stop thinking about, a man who
seem tailored for her…except…
Monstrous
Beauty swaps back and forth between the lives of Syrenka, 1870s and Hester,
present day so delightfully that intertwines the stories without being complicating.
A mistake made out of
love and a mistake corrected in love…
Mind- blowing!
I
love-love-loved this book. From the cover art to the storyline was well thought
off! It’s also a nice change from Trilogies that is common
today! Monstrous Beauty is dazzling. It’s unnerving. It’s amorous. It’s
unforgettable. It’s enigmatic. It’s brilliantly composed. It’s a bit of
everything for everyone! (Mermaids, ghost stories, murder mysteries, history,
romance and gut wrenching love). Monstrous Beauty is a rarity… A stand-alone
that lingers…! Well-done Elizabeth Fama.

The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it. ~James Bryce
