Dawn & Winnie Book Reviews
The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles #1) by Rick Riordan Since their mother's death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane. One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a "research experiment" at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives.Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them —Set— has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe - a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs
In modern times where Mythological Gods exist. In Manhattan we have the Greeks and in Brooklyn NY we have the Egyptians. (VERY TERRITORIAL) We follow a family- the Kanes, on a quest to keep one of the baddest Egyptian Gods of all time - SET - trapped in his prison. But on this quest family is separated and Sadie and Carter find their young selves on the quest alone with the rest of the world against time. while trying to keep Set's prison up they are forced to hide from the a secret sect that do not believe the world is in danger. While on this perilous quest, secrets of the Carter family are revealed- not all of them good- with great action and laugh all around I must say this is a great start. This story is told from the POV of both Carter and Sadie. They maintain the usual brother sister rivalry while telling the story in a very fun and entertaining way. Egyptian Gods are not quite like those Greeks- Rick has definitely put a new and special twist on this tale.
"The Red Pyramid," is the debut book in "The Kane Chronicles," Rick Riordan's new series. Cater and Sadie, the two main characters has transcendent powers but doesn't know it until strange things begin to unfurl. The disappearance of the sib’s father is the catalyst…. (The beginning of the end). In this masterpiece we were introduced to prehistoric characters (The Egyptian gods to be exact) and we traveled to eerie places. There are battles with evil forces and an ominous deadline by which the Kane’s must complete a task, lest civilization tumble down into chaos. Once again, Riordan tangles contemporary life with folklore and olden times by putting vitality and vigor back into objet d'art such as the Rosetta stone while restoring ancient Egyptian story lines. I am a big fan and I call his work original…! Riordan’s books are always full of action, its thrilling, funny and entertaining….
The Throne of Fire (Kane Chronicles #2) By Rick Riordan Ever since the gods of Ancient Egypt were unleashed in the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister Sadie have been in trouble. As descendants of the House of Life, the Kanes have some powers at their command, but the devious gods haven't given them much time to master their skills at Brooklyn House, which has become a training ground for young magicians. And now their most threatening enemy yet - the chaos snake Apophis - is rising. If they don't prevent him from breaking free in a few days' time, the world will come to an end. In other words, it's a typical week for the Kane family. To have any chance of battling the Forces of Chaos, the Kanes must revive the sun god Ra. But that would be a feat more powerful than any magician has ever accomplished. First they have to search the world for the three sections of the Book of Ra, then they have to learn how to chant its spells. Oh, and did we mention that no one knows where Ra is exactly? Narrated in two different wisecracking voices, featuring a large cast of new and unforgettable characters, and with adventures spanning the globe, this second installment in the Kane Chronicles is nothing short of a thrill ride
The Kanes have gained some students for the Brooklyn region, for magician training. During this somewhat peaceful time, Carter has a vision, that sets him and Sadie on a death defying quest. If they fail, the world will end. While they pursue this, the Egyptian sector has secret plans of their own, plans that the Kanes see with intercept and stop the Kanes. carter finds himself having to choose between duty and love, Sadie is torn between a god and a human, and a couple of the most powerful magicians in the world are out to see the Kanes dead. Difficult decisions must be made at every corner, and those that should be trusted may be the enemy. Will the Kanes succeed or will Set and Apophis get their way. Total chaos is about to erupt and the fate of the world rests in the hands of two teenagers a dwarf and a cat.
In The Throne of Fire, Sadie and Carter continue their escapades with the Egyptian gods. Essentially, they are trying to stop —the ultimate evil—from rising to power before it’s too late. It’s entirely about Legends muddled up with contemporary era and Siblings trying to save the world. And I loved it!!!! Sadie is my favorite lead character! She is feisty and funny; she is also sarcastic and goes for what she wants… Carter is also a good lead character, though sometimes he can be too… what’s the word Sadie uses???? Yes! That one. Rick Rio- has done it again… this book wasn’t a disappointment, at least not to me. His analogies and idioms are just too divine! And LOL funny… Truly, this was an amazing read- for me…. And-
