Seraphina (Seraphina # 1) By Rachel Hartman

Title: Seraphina
Series: Seraphina
Author: Rachel Hartman
Genre: Young Adult
Paperback: 451 pages
 Publisher: Random House
Publication: July 10th 2012
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.In her exquisitely written fantasy debut, Rachel Hartman creates a rich, complex, and utterly original world. Seraphina's tortuous journey to self-acceptance is one readers will remember long after they've turned the final page.

In this beautifully written debut fantasy, Rachel Hartman creates a rich, complex, original and utterly thought- provoking world. I have always loved dragons and when I found out that this book is about dragons, I couldn’t sit still. At first, I couldn’t bring myself to fully enjoy this book because of life’s unfair interruptions, but when I truly begun reading; I read this masterpiece in one sitting!

Seraphina is about a girl who is talented in music and singing. Brave to a fault yet lonely and she has a secret that could make or break her. In this world of bias and distrust, Seraphina needed to find a place where she could be accepted for who and what she is. Her life was built on a lie and it were lies she told to keep from the scrutiny’s of the people who would cause her harm. All I can say is that this book had an additive quality to it. And I loved it. I love the humor; the elegant writing style, the budding relationships and the storyline. The suspense was truly mystic and I can’t wait until book 2.
