Covenant Series By Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Half Blood
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Covenant # 1
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Paperback: 281
Publication Date: October 18th 2011
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
Half blood is a mixture of several books yet it enthralls. It didn’t seem original but it keeps you plugged in. I like the storyline and I like the heroine’s bravery, Stupid, reckless and a bit, okay a lot off putting.  I have heard a lot of things about this book so I thought I’d give it a try, I can’t say it was my favorite, maybe it’s the heroine’s portrayal because I don’t see why any level headed boy would find her attractive! She is reckless, thoughtless, impulsive and rude! She doesn’t have any regards for rules, and the fact that she is fated to become powerful. Worries me.

Alex has been on the run with her mother for a while now, until her mother was killed. Thinking she is alone, she’d been living on the street until an attack that nearly killed her sent her back to the covenant, a place she isn’t sure she wants to be. As the story progresses, we find a world laced with Greek mythos, fated love (Seth) and forbidden love (Aiden) a loony oracle and a major twist that will leave you reeling. Overly Dramatic? Yeah, I thought so too! It was a good storyline, I would have loved this book, but the heroine is so stupid! She doesn’t have an ounce of self-preservation! Cuss it, she really isn’t my cup of tea, she seems brainless and for that this book did NOT do it for me. Worst now that I am hooked, I really hope there are only four books and nothing else!

Jennifer L. Armentrout is a fair writer, she could be something, but her idea of a heroine is lacking making her work off Putting!  I like the Greek foundation and I like the somewhat originality, but this book reminds me too much of Harry Potter, vampire academy and … something niggling at the back of my head! Oh! Yeah, Dark hunter series…!
The next book pure isn’t something I look forward too either because I can smell the stench of a love triangle and it isn’t going to be pretty… worst its going to be dragged out until the very end (groans)… That. is such old tired rubbish!
Here is a little suggestion, a heroine or a hero who isn’t irritating and off- putting equals 5 stars! Period!... to say the least! Anyway… yeah, whatever . . . Its a book what publishing and well what do you know.

Great read... I was a bit skeptical to pick up this book after a close friend advised me not to, but in reality I am so happy I chose to ignore her. Half blood the first in the covenant series takes a twist on Greek mythology. We don’t see or hear much about the Gods given the fact that they have stopped communicating with mankind so long ago, but now we get insight into the world of the offspring of the demi gods. There are the Pures, which are the full blooded offspring then the half bloods who are the result of a pure getting frisky with a mortal. If you want to relate any books with this I would say a cross between Mortal Instrument Series and Percy Jackson. Well-written great flow.  Our heroine of the story is a teenager who was pulled out of the only life she has ever known by her mom. When her mom is killed by the dark daemons, she is forced to defend herself in the mortal world, while at the same time come to terms with her mother's death. The group of sentinels- half bloods and Pures trained by the council for the protection of the purebloods- and returned home finds her. It is upon her return home that she must face the consequences of the three years she was pulled away from her life. She is now forced to prove that she is worthy to become a sentinel instead of facing the doom of being a zombified servant.  As a teenager she is forced with hard decisions, and also overwhelmed by guilt in this story. She tries to face her demons while still coming to terms of loosing the closest person to her. Despite skeptic reviews which criticize her decision making throughout the book, while reading I kept in mind that our main character is a teen- remember those days when we did nothing but disobey our parents?- on our main character is a very stubborn independent self confident heroine. She has a lot to learn and makes mistakes on her journey of life- the only difference between her and our mortal lives, is that in her world- the consequences could be deadly. The ending was bittersweet, can't wait for pure. Hope this series will continue as the first. Loved the story two thumbs up.

Title: Pure
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Covenant # 2
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Paperback: 329
Publication Date: April 3rd  2012
There is need. And then there is Fate...Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone

What can I say? There is a love triangle and for fuck’s sake, I really don’t like Alex. I don’t know if I am going to like this series because in my opinion, NO ONE can really choose between Fate and Love… or is it Need and Love? I forget. I will give kudos to Jennifer L. Armentrout, her writing does have an addictive quality to it, and people are drawn to the unknown. Personally, I still don’t fully understand what this story is based on… what is the point of the heroine and what does her love life have to do with her being a threat?  I still can’t come up with anything colorful so… Any who … yeah!

OMG  --- Jennifer YOU ARE SUCH A TEASE. Pure is a great addition to the Covenant Series.  I swear, when you think you got things figured out she takes you on a whirlwind ride. We start of not too far from Half Blood; Alex continues here hard-core training and the other students at the school continually snicker behind her back.  That is only the beginning, for most of this book we are at the New York covenant branch where Alex goes to face the council’s inquiry to the latest hazard of events surrounding her life- Becoming the Apollyon, her mother and Caleb’s death- : while in NY she realizes that they  are more medieval compared to the folks in South Carolina and that in fact halves are  considered just about nothing in the pure world. Alex fights to recover from her break up with Aiden, seeking help from Seth. But is she ready for that? Will Alex even pass the council’s inquisition? And with this entire going on, someone is hell bent on stopping her transformation into the next Apollyon. She faces utter danger with life and love.  Oh, and kindle readers even get a sneak into the mind frame of Seth as the author treats us with an excerpt from his POV. Great read. I seriously need more. Can’t wait for deity

Series: Covenant # 3

Paperback: 360

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.  Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

This isn't helping me, ladies! On the one hand I do tend to loose patience with stupid and reckless main characters, but I do make a few allowances for teens... So, to read or not to read? I think it depends on whether or not I find the book on sale somewhere for little money. :)

Well! Dawn likes crazy heroines, I don't!
Sorry, I didn't like it. But I must admit that I am so curious about her stupidity, that I read book two and I think I might read book 3. All in all, Friend I think you can act as a tie breaker on this one. :))
