Dark Series By Christine Feehan

The Dark Series embark on the Carpathians, a strong and primordial race. They have countless gifts, including the ability to shape-shift, and extended life spans, living for thousands of years. Although they feed on human blood, they don't kill their human quarry, and for the most part live among humans without discovery. In spite of their gifts, the Carpathians are on the rim of extinction. There have been hardly any children born to the race in the past few centuries, and those that have been born are all male and worst, frequently die in the foremost year. It has been 500 years give or take 700 since a female has been born. As a result, the absence of their female equal/other half, also known as "lifemates,” All male Carpathians lose the ability to feel emotions and to see in color. The only feeling left to them is the buzz of making a kill. Once a male Carpathian kills in the process of feeding, he loses his soul and "turns," becoming the monster of human myth, A vampire or the "undead." Soulless!  With little or no females left, males are forced to make a stark choice: either becomes vampire or "greet the dawn" (commit suicide). Though, when a male Carpathian do find his lifemate, the ability to see in color and his emotions are restored to him, and he souls is saved.
These are the Stories of Carpathians and their mates

Dark Prince (Carpathians #1)Prince of the Night.
He came to her in the night, a predator -- strength and power chiseled his features. The seduction was deep and elemental; he affected her soul. His need. His darkness. His terrible haunting loneliness. Her senses aroused, she craved the dangerous force of his body. Burned for him. And he had only touched her with his mind.
Lady of the Light …She came to him at dawn, his bleakest hour. As the beast raged inside him, threatening to consume him, he vented his centuries-old despair in an anguished cry that filled the waning night. And she answered, a ray of light, piercing his darkness. A beautiful angel. Her compassion, courage, and innocence awakened in him an exquisite longing and tenderness. He knew he must possess her, for only she could tame his savage side and lift the dark shadow from his soul. Apart they were desolate, bereft. Intertwined physically and spiritually, they could heal one another and experience an eternity of nights filled with love.
Mikhail Dubrinsky, Prince of the Carpathians, has worked vigorously for centuries to ascertain why so many of their children die in the first years. Still, his hard works have come to no reward. He was ready to greet the sun/ commit suicide- Mikhail was on the verge of hopelessness and self-destruction that he meets a striking human psychic, Raven Whitney. Raven is a telepath, who works with the police to help capture serial killers.  But, her gift comes with a price: a life of isolation, and pain whenever she uses her gift… to get into the minds of killer to help apprehend them. So to keep her sanity, every time she uses her gift to help the cops, she takes a vacation, an isolated vacation to rest her mind… then she meets Mikhail!
When Mikhail met Raven, he is dazed and flabbergasted when he swiftly is able to see colors in her presence; he realizes that she is his life mate.  Regardless of his thrill, he is in despair because a human woman has never been a lifemate to a Carpathian. All human females who were converted had become nuts, worst they start to feed on children and had to be destroyed. Yet, he is sure that she is the only woman for him, the other half of his essence. Mikhail is resolute to live as a human with Raven and to die when she does. But, faith has another future for the race of Carpathians and Raven and Mikhail are in the spotlight. Raven is attacked by fanatics (Vamp Hunters), and Mikhail is forced to convert her to save her life. Her survival brings new hope to him and his people, pro if one psychic human female can be a lifemate, surely there are others. This story got me engrossed from the very beginning and I was enthralled! Christine Feehan is an amazing storyteller and she keeps reading exciting! For lovers of Vamp novels, this book is a keeper… I had a hard time putting this book down and it was worth it!

Dark Desire (Carpathians #2)They were masters of the darkness, searching through eternity for a mistress of the light...
The stranger silently summons her from across the continents, across the seas. He whispers of eternal torment, of endless hunger...of dark, dangerous desires. And somehow American surgeon Shea O'Halloran can feel his anguish, sense his haunting aloneness, and she aches to heal him, to heal herself. Drawn to the far Carpathian mountains, Shea finds a ravaged, raging man, a being like no other. And her soul trembles. For in his burning eyes, his icy heart, she recognizes the beloved stranger who's already become part of her. This imperious Carpathian male compels Shea to his side. But is she to be his healer...or his prey? His victim...or his mate? Is he luring her into madness...or will his dark desire make her whole?

This book starts with Jacques Dubrinsky, younger sib to Mikhail. He’d being tortured and buried alive by members of the same fanatical assemblage that attacked Raven and killed his sister some 20 years earlier in Dark Prince.
He’d lost most of his memory (his sanity), the only thing he has, is a clear memory of is of the faces of his human tormentors, the vampire who betrayed him to the society, and of the woman who might save him.

Shea O’Halloran is a Smart American surgeon and researcher trying to find the cure for a rare blood disorder. Her quest of a cure is private because she also suffers from the disease, and she fears that one day it will kill her.
She occasionally has to have blood transfusions in order to survive. But as it turns out, there is more to her condition. She is Half Carpathian and she doesn’t know what she is or who her father is. Although, as the story unfolds… twist and turns were revealed and it was intense! The questions are did the all to playful Jacq keep his sanity? Or did he become something else. I liked book two, it was emotional and I can’t wait to read Dark Gold!

 Dark Gold (Carpathians #3)Was he a man...or a miracle?
Alexandria Houton would sacrifice anything--even her life--to protect her orphaned little brother. But when both encountered unspeakable evil in the swirling San Francisco mists, Alex could only cry to heaven for their deliverance .. .
And out of the darkness swooped Aidan Savage, a golden being more powerful, more mysterious, than any other creature of the night. The ageless Carpathian male snatched them from a hideous fate. But was Aidan a miracle . . . or a monster? Alex's salvation . . . or her sin? If she surrendered to Aidan's savage, unearthly seduction--gave him the color, the light, the family he craved--would Alex truly save her brother? Or sacrifice more than her life?

Dark Magic (Carpathians #4)WOULD SHE FIND MAGIC -- OR MARDNESS IN HIS DARK EMBRACE?Young Savannah Dubrinsky is a mistress of illusion, a world-famous magician capable of mesmerizing millions. But there is one--Gregori, the Dark One--who holds her in terrifying thrall. Whose cold silver eyes and heated sensuality send shivers of danger, of desire, down her slender spine.
With a dark magic all his own, Gregori--the implacable hunter, the legendary healer, the most powerful of Carpathian males--whispers in Savannah's mind that he is her destiny. That she was born to save his immortal soul. And now, here in New Orleans, the hour has finally come to claim her. To make her completely his. In a ritual as old as time ... and as inescapable as eternity.

Dark Challenge (Carpathians #5)Julian Savage was golden. Powerful. But tormented. For the brooding hunter walked alone, always alone, far from his Carpathian kind, alien to even his twin. Like his name, his existence was savage. Until he met the woman he was sworn to protect...
When Julian heard Desari sing, rainbows swamped his starving senses. Emotions bombarded his hardened heart. And a dark hunger to possess her flooded his loins, blinding him to the danger stalking him. And even as Desari enflamed him, she dared to defy him with mysterious, unparalleled feminine powers. Was Desari more than his perfect mate? Julian had met his match in this woman, but would she drive him to madness... or save his soul?

Dark Fire (Carpathians #6)"There is always a price to pay."
So Darius warned her when she accepted a position with his traveling troupe. And gazing mesmerized at the merciless slash of his mouth, the implacable resolve on his face, the soulless emptiness of his black eyes, Tempest was afraid to ask what it was. She had always been different, apart from others. From the moment his arms closed around her, enveloping her in a sorcerer's spell, Darius seemed to understand her unique gifts. But did his kiss offer the love and belonging she sought, or a danger more potent than his own panthers? Somewhere deep inside herself, Tempest, realized she knew the answer. She had no choice but to accept the velvet stroke of his tongue, 'submit to the white-hot heat piercing her skin, welcome an erotic pleasure like no other. . . .

Dark Legend (Carpathians #8)He woke deep within the ground, and the first sensation he felt was hunger. An overwhelming hunger for blood that demanded satisfaction. But as he hunted the dark streets of Paris for prey, a voice called to him, soothing, calming, giving him the strength to control his craving.
Francesca Del Ponce was a healer, a woman who radiated goodness as powerfully as the sun did light. But surely his obsession with her would turn him as his twin brother had turned, leaving the world with two monsters instead of one. Though he knew she would be like hot silk in his arms, though he knew the taste of her would be addictive, he feared for her life and his soul if he took her. Then with one mind-shattering vow she gave herself -- "I offer freely, without reservation, I offer my life for yours as is my right" --and with a firestorm of long-forgotten feelings, he glimpsed salvation.

Dark Guardian (Carpathians #9)He ran with the wolves...materialized from the mists...hijacked the very heavens to his whims.  He was the dark guardian of his people. So how, after centuries of a bleak, soulless existence had he, Lucian Daratrazanoff, suddenly come to crave petite, curvy, colorful lady cop Jaxon Montgomery, who foolishly made it her life's work to protect others from harm?  Fiercely daring, Jaxx would sacrifice anything to shield others- particularly since a deadly menace dogged her every footstep, threatening all who got close to her. And strangely seductive, piercingly erotic Lucian was no exception. Lucian was powerfully, perilously mesmerizing--oddly gentle yet clearly a born predator. He had vowed to possess her, to guard her for all time. Yet with his every thirsty kiss, was he drawing Jaxon more deeply into danger and his dark, mysterious desires?

Dark Symphony (Carpathians #10)He was Carpathian, a species as old as time. He could shift shape and soar high, run with the wolves, yet without light to his darkness, he could so easily give in to the whispers of temptation, the call for power and turn wholly evil--to become the undead, as many of his kind had chosen to do. He traveled the world, hunting the vampire, seeking to maintain a balance of life in a world of bleak loneliness. And then he heard the music...
Blinded and scarred in a terrible accident, Antonietta Scarletti made music that thrilled the world with its beauty and passion. Descended from a long line of psychics, Antonietta has learned to rely on her other senses to "see" the world around her, but nothing could have prepared her for Byron. He came to her, drawn by her music, and became her secret obsession. Others fear him, sensing that he is dangerous--a predator--but for Antonietta he is her ultimate fantasy, her dream lover. He woos her with kisses full of erotic allure, whispering that she is his light, his salvation. Byron has waited an eternity for her, and he will let nothing stand between him and the woman born to be his lifemate....

Dark Melody (Carpathians #12)Lead guitarist of the Dark Troubadours, Dayan was renowned for his mesmerizing performances. His melodies stilled crowds, beckoned, seduced, tempted. And always, he called to her. His lover. His lifemate. He called to her to complete him. To give him the emotions that had faded from his existence, leaving him an empty shell of growing darkness. Save me. Come to me.
Corinne Wentworth stood at the vortex of a gathering storm. Pursued by the same fanatics who'd murdered her husband, she was risking her life by keeping more than one secret. Fragile, delicate, vulnerable, she had an indomitable faith that made her fiery surrender to Dayan all the more powerful. This was the one woman whose loss would destroy him, even as her love promised to heal his soul.

Dark Destiny (Carpathians #13)Her childhood had been a nightmare of violence and pain until she heard his voice calling out to her. Golden and seductive. The voice of an angel.
He had shown her how to survive, taught her to use her unique gifts, trained her in the ancient art of hunting the vampire. Yet he could not bend her to his will. He could not summon her to him, no matter how great his power.
As she battled centuries-old evil in a glittering labyrinth of caverns and crystals, he whispered in her mind, forging an unbreakable bond of trust and need. Only with him can she find the courage to embrace the seductive promise of her ...

Dark Secret (Carpathians #15)Rafael De La Cruz has spent centuries hunting vampires with his brothers, and with each passing year his capacity to feel emotions has grown weaker and weaker until finally there's barely been a memory left-until only sheer willpower keeps him from turning into the very abomination he hunts. But it'll take more than will to keep him away from the woman who is meant to be his and his alone…  For five years, rancher Colby Jansen has been the sole protector of her younger half-siblings, and with fierce determination and work she has kept her family together and the ranch operational. Now, the De La Cruz brothers are threatening that stability. They claim that her siblings belong with their father's family, not with her. Colby vows to fight them-especially the cold and arrogant Rafael De La Cruz. But Rafael is after more than her family-he wants Colby and will not let anything stand between them. After ages of loneliness, the raw desire to possess her overwhelms his very soul, driving him to claim her as his life mate.

Dark Demon (Carpathians #16)For as long as she can remember, Natalya has been fighting demons: first in the form of childhood nightmares, then later, immortal creatures that kill and prey on the innocent--including her own twin brother. Whether Carpathian or vampire, she slays those who murder by night, and has no equal--until she is seduced by the ve thing she considers her enemy...  A Carpathian who has seen nearly everything in his endless existence, Vikirnoff doesn't think he can be surprised anymore--until he faces a woman who rival him as a vampire hunter. A formidable and gifted warrior in her own right, Natalya has a nature that is strange familiar--yet alien--to his own. Who is this mysterious female who fears no one--not even him? Natalya could the key to the survival of the Carpathians, but a Vikirnoff is certain of is that she is the key to his hear and soul...

Dark Celebration (Carpathians #17)With her erotically charged Carpathian tales, Christine Feehan has enthralled a legion of fans, captivated by a seductive world and the unforgettable characters--both human and not--who inhabit it. Now, she reunites all of them in a Dark Celebration...
After centuries as the prince of the Carpathians, Mikhail Dubrinsky fears he can't protect his people for long from their greatest threat: the extinction of their species at the hands of their immortal enemies--who are devising a scheme to slaughter Carpathian females. But so too are their adversaries uniting--hunters, vampires, demons and betrayers--bringing untold dangers into the fold of the Carpathian people.

The last thing he expected after being called back to his Carpathian homeland by Prince Mikhail was to catch the scent of his destined lifemate in MaryAnn Delaney. MaryAnn is human, but she knows all too well the aggressive instincts of Carpathian males. And they're not exactly the kind of men she'd prefer to be bound to for life. A dedicated counselor for battered women, MaryAnn has a fulfilling life with no room for someone like Manolito, born and bred in the Carpathian mountains, a law unto himself. But when MaryAnn agrees to go to South America to offer guidance to a brutalized young woman, she has no idea a trap awaits her in the sweltering thick of the jungle. She has been drawn there by Manolito himself, who has seductive plans for the unaware, irresistibly human female...

Zacarias was a horrible character, still didn't beat Rafael. The story would have been nice, if she got her voice back after the change and he heard for the first time and was brought fully into the light. Also would have been nice to include his brothers and their lifemates.

Great I dea! It would have been nice for Zacarias's Life-mate to recover her voice.
But remember, Antonietta, Byron's life-mate is still blind. I guess the author is trying to say no matter the life-mate's imperfection, the carpathian male would still adore there life mates.
Plus, Zacarias can only see in colors when he is closer to his life.
