Dawn & Winnie Book Reviews
Author: Rick Riordan
Series: Percy Jackson & the Olympians #1
Publisher: Disney Hyperion Books
Paperback: 377
Publication Date: April 1st
After getting expelled from yet another school for yet another clash with mythological monsters only he can see, twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is taken to Camp Half-Blood, where he finally learns the truth about his unique abilities: He is a demigod, half human, half immortal. Even more stunning: His father is the Greek god Poseidon, ruler of the sea, making Percy one of the most powerful demigods alive. There's little time to process this news. All too soon, a cryptic prophecy from the Oracle sends Percy on his first quest, a mission to the Underworld to prevent a war among the gods of Olympus. This first installment of Rick Riordan's best-selling series is a non-stop thrill-ride and a classic of mythic proportions.
Percy Jackson is a character that lots of kids can understand. He gets into trouble and he can never
seem to stay in one school long enough to really make friends. It turn out that
Percy has a secret, he is the son of a god!!!! Therefore, making him a demigod…
Knowing this makes him a target and he
had to go to camp half blood, a camp for all the other demigods…. This book is
full of adventure and very witty!!!
It’s also a book for pre teens and I find myself wanting more.
I enjoyed this
1st book in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. I'm looking forward
to reading the rest of the books in this series. Rick Riordan is a contender
and I believe I will become a great fan!!!!
Greek Mythology in the 20th century. Percy Jackson has a secret, one that
everyone in his life seems to know about, but to which he remains clueless.
When Zeus' lightning bolt goes missing Percy's secret is revealed - He is a
Demi God, and not just any but the son of Poseidon- and a life threatening
quest is started, not just perilous for Percy but also for the world. We stand
on the brink of an internal civil war between the Gods. With his companions
Percy sets out one a quest that no ordinary human can partake. With
interactions of the ancient Greek demons, heroes and gods, Percy Jackson and
the lightning thief is a riveting fast paced story. Rick Riordian writes with
great humor teasing with bits of sarcasm at times that helps bring out this
action packed book with laughs.
Great twists and turns really bring to mind that quiote about keeping
your friends close, and your enemies closer. Great book not just for young
adults, one to sure keep you turning the pages.

Series: Percy Jackson & the Olympians #2
Publisher: Disney Hyperion Books
Paperback: 279
Publication Date: April 1st 2006
After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson is finding his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson, a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any normal friends. But things don't stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders that protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters; the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia. Only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name: The Bermuda Triangle. Together with his friends, Percy must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family, one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke
A new great addition to the Percy Jackson
series!
In this chapter Percy made new friends
and has a crush but something always happens! This time, in their quest to save camp half blood, the
heroes have to go on a journey to the sea of monsters, which is the famous
Bermuda triangle to recover the Golden Fleece…. It was a great adventure indeed
and the cliffhanger gives you the shakes… meaning I am looking forward to the
next installment.
I believe Riordan
has stayed authentic to his characters in this second book, and true to the
core of the first. The main scheme didn't seem quite as horrible as in the
first book, but I imagine it's because it's a background, the stage for
"what's next."
So, while I
wasn't as engrossed with this book as I was with the first book, I'm still rapt
with the series and eager to read the next book.
After Percy Jackson saved the world in
book 1 he tries to
continue his normal life while coming to terms of hi parental lineage. But this
period of calm is put to a halt when his summer camp- home to fellow
demigods- is in danger of being
invaded by the unknown. Compelled to rescue his lost friend and fining a way to
stop the invasion. Great action, secrets revealed and a way to see the gods, as
we may never have though. A great voyage by sea, with action and suspense guaranteed
to be a page-turner.
Title: The Titan's Curse
Author: Rick Riordan
Series: Percy Jackson & the Olympians #3
Publisher: Puffin Books
Paperback: 381
Publication Date: May 5th 2007
When the goddess Artemis goes missing, she is believed to have been kidnapped. And now it's up to Percy and his friends to find out what happened. Who is powerful enough to kidnap a goddess? They must find Artemis before the winter solstice, when her influence on the Olympian Council could swing an important vote on the war with the titans. Not only that, but first Percy will have to solve the mystery of a rare monster that Artemis was hunting when she disappeared -- a monster rumored to be so powerful it could destroy Olympus forever
In this plot the plan was to reawaken Cronos… take over Olympus… and kill the gods. Percy is the OB1… meaning… it was
preordained that he would save Olympus!!!
Basically, The oracle said that one of the big three’s son will help the
gods or destroy it. Percy thinks he is the one in the oracle, but another one
from the oracle comes up Thalia… AKA Zeus’s brat!
So if Percy is to Poseidon
And Thalia is to
Zeus…
Who is the oracle
talking about?
YES!!!! That’s
what I said… DRAMA!!!!
Percy has anger
issue, impatient, confident, troublemaker, and acts before he thinks, and is
the son of Poseidon.
Annebeth is smart, scared of spiders,
loves architect, and is the daughter of Athena.
Thalia is
short-tempered, powerful, afraid of heights, and is the daughter of Zeus.
Grover is clumsy,
knows only 2 songs on his pipe, is looking for Pan, and Percy’s best friend.
Luke is evil,
smart, deceiving, and is the son of Hermes.
Greek folklore
continues its exhilarating and dodgy journey in the third installment of the
Percy Jackson Series. Teen trouble, temperamental gods, this is an
extraordinary read.
What' the best way to start a war? Chaos, and that is exactly what happens
here. The Titans are threatening the God’s rule, and the titans are hungry for
their revenge. Things remain a mystery as Percy and Grover set on a quest to
unravel clues to find Annabeth. As
his quest continues it seems almost as if his young hero is doomed for a life
of ongoing quests. Percy continues to make friends and keeps a few enemies. A
Few new main characters come into play. Rick Riordan is bringing the series out
with no room for rest. Can't wait for the next one. No idea what those titans
are up to, but whatever it is, it's going to be huge.
Title: The Battle of the Labyrinth
Author: Rick Riordan
Series: Percy Jackson & the Olympians #4
Publisher: Disney Hyperion Books
Paperback: 361
Publication Date: May 6th 2008
Percy Jackson's fourth summer at Camp Half-Blood is much like his previous three—high-octane clashes with dark forces, laced with hip humor and drama. Opening with a line for the ages—The last thing I wanted to do on my summer break was blow up another school—this penultimate series installment finds Percy, Annabeth and the satyr Grover furiously working to prevent former camp counselor Luke from resurrecting the Titan lord Kronos, whose goal is to overthrow the gods. When the heroes learn that Luke can breach Camp Half-Blood's security through an exit from Daedalus's Labyrinth, they enter the maze in search of the inventor and a way to stop the invasion. Along the way they encounter a lifetime supply of nightmare-inducing, richly imagined monsters. Grover's own quest to find the lost god Pan, meanwhile, provides a subtle environmental message. Percy, nearly 15, has girl trouble, having become something of a chick magnet. One of Riordan's strengths is the wry interplay between the real and the surreal. When the heroes find Hephaestus, for instance, he's repairing a Toyota, wearing overalls with his name embroidered over the chest pocket. The wit, rousing swordplay and breakneck pace will once again keep kids hooked
Doom’s day… is drawing nearer and it seem that the oracle is now
talking about Percy Nico and Thalia!
Three kids of the big three!
In "The Battle of the
Labyrinth", Percy must find a way to stop Kronos from taking over the
world as a new ruler on Mount Olympus. Percy must also get help from complete
stranger, battle ancient mythical creatures that have taken up day jobs as a
disguise, and ultimately avoiding death.
Sounds perilous right???
It is!
And I loved it.
"The Battle
of the Labyrinth" is a true- captivator. It’s adventurous, heart pounding and the ultimate suspense…
it’s a mystery!
Rick Riordan continues to keep his readers hooked and
entertained with this series. Camp half- blood is under attack again, and Percy
with his companions must find a way to stop it. While on this quest the Titan's
rise continues, bringing the worlds demise closer each day. Time is of the
essence, in addition to this, Grover finds himself haunted with dreams of the
God Pan, and thinks that it is his destiny to find him. Can the trio stop the
pending invasion and find the nature God? Or will they end up to a dead end in
the maze. Can they trust Nico and Bianca (these mysterious teens who's parental
lineage remains a mystery)? Who will have the answers to save the world? With
unlikely allies, and an enemy that refuses to be defeated, this book will have
you reading to the end non-stop.

All year the half-bloods have been preparing for battle against the Titans, knowing the odds of a victory are grim. Kronos’s army is stronger than ever, and with every god and half-blood he recruits, the evil Titan’s power only grows. While the Olympians struggle to contain the rampaging monster Typhon, Kronos begins his advance on New York City, where Mount Olympus stands virtually unguarded. Now it’s up to Percy Jackson and an army of young demigods to stop the Lord of Time. In this momentous final book in the New York Times best-selling series, the long-awaited prophecy surrounding Percy’s sixteenth birthday unfolds. And as the battle for Western civilization rages on the streets of Manhattan, Percy faces a terrifying suspicion that he may be fighting against his own fate.
The end of the world is here. War has started and chaos is amidst. In
this epic finale, Rick ties all ends. You must pick a side- Titans or Gods? And
be sure it’s the right one cause if you pick wrong.... True non-stop action
until the end. A twist that will have you rereading lines. The prophecy comes
true, and who exactly is the last Olympian? Is Percy the means to the end or a
new beginning? Who shall overcome?
? Definitely one of the best and satisfying end, with an unlikely hero of sorts.
